A life coach is similar to a sports coach but focuses on you as a person, and what you want to change or achieve in your life. It is someone who motivates and guides you to develop your mind, body, health, spirit and/or work life.


Coaching can help get you from where you are now, to wherever you want to be, by changing the way you see or do things. Or by helping you improve, remove or realign certain aspects of your life.


Coaching is not counselling, psychotherapy, mentoring or an advisory service. It does not just dwell on previous experiences and problems or talk about theoretical ideas. Coaching works on the principle of moving forward towards a goal and finding ways that work for you as an individual.

How Coaching Works

Coaching focuses on identifying the actual issues and remove barriers that stop you from progressing and create solutions that are in harmony with your eventual goal or particular needs. A personally designed program of activities is planned and agreed upon at the start so know exactly where you are. 


First, we will work together and pull out any limiting beliefs or old negative programs that no longer serves you. Then, you will learn exactly how to create new mind-sets, more positive habits, patterns or behaviours with step-by-step methods that are easy to apply in your every-day life. Or you might do practical activities such as finding information, researching or writing or practice thinking exercises.

 

You will receive appropriate guidance, tools based on psychological methods and the right level of motivation that suits your needs. As you develop, we will regularly evaluate your progress and make any necessary changes you need. All coaching is provided in a ‘client centred’ way with clear explanations and transparency.


The sessions can take place at a time that fits in with your routine and lifestyle. Coaching sessions are held as one-to-one meetings, in an unbiased, completely confidential and safe environment. You decide how much personal information you wish to share.

Life coaching is for everyday people with everyday needs. Your background, status or job role does not matter and every individual's needs are completely different. For instance, you may be a student at college, a home-maker, an employee, a senior director or a retired person and you may want to remove something from the past or create a much healthier future. Coaching is for anyone who sincerely wants to grow, heal or develop themselves for the better.


However, if you have a serious psychological disorder, a debilating trauma or an unstable mental history, then it is better for you to consult your doctor first and a clinical psychotherapist for your particular needs. Personalized coaching is only for adults over the age of 18. So if you have children that need coaching, it is recommended that you find a coach who specializes in working with children.


Jivon Deesha offers life coaching for people who genuinely want to make a change in their lives and not for people who simply want another ‘pastime’.
